Google Priority Inbox

The thing that interested me a lot on the other day was, when I exchange my email with some newly met friends, me and one of the other guy are the only two person using Hotmail, while the rest of them all using Gmail. Then a little girl suddenly popped up a question to us two goes like “…are you guys from 80s? Still using Hotmail?

Google mail certainly a new generation of email system, along with many other its online applications, more and more small business even start to use it as their office administration systems, and I have to admit it works really amazing. The strong support of the internet, and now along with mobile technology, is making Google a kind of “the next generation”. But somehow, I am still not too sure if I want to use it as my personal email.

When I logged into the Gmail of our company, a small image studio, last night, an advertisement regarding to its new function, Google Priority Inbox, pops up. It is a very interesting animation introducing you how this works, but after I watch it, I questioned myself, is it really an improvement by trading our ‘Privacy’ for the ‘Priority’?

It is obviously Google introduced a system, which will constantly monitor all the email traffics of someone’s mailbox, and make itself to “learn” to sort future emails in a favor of that person likes. It seems the Gmail has not access the content yet, which is very good, but it certainly needs to record who you have contacted with the most, or the earliest, and main other privacy informtion. I am sure it will make our lives easier, but the risk is, you might end up like only read the emails that the Gmail THINKS are important to you! I still lack a full confident in that automatic mechanics, as well as the security, at least for now.

Hotmail is also improving its services, and I quite like the new simplified inbox layout. It is designed very humanistic now and easy to access, at least as user, you still have the full control, a human touch~
