Stealing from the Internet

Piracy and Stealing:

You wouldnt steal a car, You wouldnt steal someones purse.... So why steal music..?
We hear this all the time when we go to the local cinemas or even when watching a D.V.D at home. It is true though... why do people think stealing off the internet is any different to stealing a car. It still belongs to someone and it isnt yours.

In tutorials this week we had a discussion about piracy. I feel I was the only one in the class who felt it was wrong to download music from the internet....
People said that it is hardly stealing as the file is still there online and other people can still download off it. Although I belive that it isnt yours so you shouldnt keep it.
Some person went through the hard work of creating and publishing their C.D or D.V.D and then the next week anyone can simply click a button and watch and listen to it for free. How is this not stealing? You are taking something which doesnt belong to you.
Some people believe that they have the right to download as they dont have money to purchase the hard copy.... In saying this, would they go out and steal a car because they didnt have the money to purchase it. If you did steal a car I am pretty sure you would also get in trouble with the police.

I think it is a good idea to be able to listen to a c.d before you purchase it although isnt this what Radio stations are for?
Personally I think purchasing the real deal is so much more rewarding... You have the actual product and you have given money to the people who worked hard on creating it.

By looking at Piracy in another context it is clear that it is stealing and that it is not right.

So the question is, why do people think it is alright to steal of the internet? Is it because you cant see who you are stealing off? Is it because you cant afford it? Is it because there are lots of people are doing it?

Maybe the reason why people dont take the anti-piracy advertisments seriosly is because the ads are not intimidating enough. If they put more effort into making the ads serious by showing us the outcomes and consequenses of downloading music and movies people would take them a little more seriosly.
Personally you would think that peoples morals would be enough to stop them from stealing...
